How to Clean Boat Stainless Steel and Hardware

Good Price Detailing · Southeast Florida

Why stainless spots in salt air

Salt, moisture and neglect leave spots and staining on rails, cleats and fittings, even on marine-grade stainless.

Rinse first

Rinse with fresh water to remove salt and grit before you wipe, so you do not scratch the surface.

Clean gently

Use a mild cleaner made for stainless and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals, which can damage the surface.

Dry and repeat

Dry the hardware with a clean towel. A regular wipe-down after outings prevents most spotting.

When to get help

If hardware is pitted, corroded or loose, ask a marine professional. Cleaning will not fix damage.
